What is a tech pack, and what’s inside

A tech pack is the technical document that tells a workshop exactly how to make your product.

  • Brief and contract in one file: the workshop uses it to quote, to cut the first pattern, and to check the sample.

  • No tech pack, no quote: most Italian workshops won’t price what they can’t see.

  • Built, checked, and walked through: drawn by our designers, reviewed by a production manager, and reviewed with you in a delivery meeting.

What you get per style

  • Front and back flats of the trousers, from the tech pack Technical drawings from every view Front, back, side, bottom, and close-ups of the details that need them.
  • Waistband and leg measurements in cm on a tech pack page Proportions and key measurements The measurements that define the fit and the proportions, in cm or inches.
  • Button and trouser hook listed in the tech pack trims column Materials, trims, labels, and functional components With references and specs for each.
  • Fabric swatch with its Pantone 11-0602 TCX code Colour palette with Pantone codes Plus colourways if your style comes in more than one.
  • Fly and zip construction detail from a tech pack page Seams, finishes, and construction details Including interior views where the inside matters.
  • Made in Italy and size stamp placed on a shoe insole, from a tech pack page Print, embroidery, and customisation guidelines Placement, size, and technique.
  • Delivery meeting A call to review every page and confirm the tech pack is ready for the workshop.

And at the end of the project, the tech pack and the design are yours. You own the files. Plus, your tech pack is designed in Italy by our team. So your collection can carry a “designed in Italy” story from day one.

From order to delivery meeting

It works in five steps, from order to delivery meeting. Most first drafts arrive in 5–15 working days.

  1. Order online

Pick the number of styles and pay by card.

  2. Kick-off with your designer

A call to go through each style, the fit you want, and the materials you have in mind.

  3. First draft

Your designer delivers the first version in 5–15 working days, depending on the number and complexity of styles.

  4. Revisions until approval

There’s no fixed limit on rounds.

  5. Delivery meeting

We walk through the final tech pack together.

It’s normal to change your mind on a detail after the first draft. Just write every comment down, so the next version closes the gap.

Drawn by designers who work with Italian workshops every day

Our designers build tech packs for the same workshops that then sample and produce them. A production manager reviews every file before it reaches you.

  • Checked against how it’s built: every seam, measurement, and material is read the way a workshop reads it.

  • Ready to quote: a workshop can price and sample your tech pack as it is.

  • One team, from tech pack to production: if you produce with us, your collection is 100% made in Italy.

100% made in Italy

Before a tech pack leaves us, I read it the way a workshop would. If a seam, a measurement, or a material raises a question, we fix it now, not during sampling.

The test is simple: can a workshop quote and sample this without asking us anything? When the answer is yes, the tech pack is ready.

Brands that started from our tech packs

Ad Hoc Atelier linen shirt and printed swim shorts laid out on a vintage suitcase

We came with sketches and references. The tech packs that came back were the first documents our workshop could quote without a single question.

Shoes are built on the last, and the tech pack has to say how. Ours documented the construction before sampling, so the first prototype was already close.

Tech pack FAQ

What is a tech pack?

A tech pack is the technical document that tells a workshop how to make your product. It includes technical drawings, measurements, materials, trims, colours, and construction details. Workshops use it to quote, make the first pattern, and check samples.

How long does it take to make a tech pack?

The first draft usually takes 5–15 working days, depending on how many styles you order and how complex they are. Revisions follow until you approve the final version. Then we close with a delivery meeting.

How much does a tech pack cost?

Technical Design costs €500 for one style, €950 for two, €1,400 for three, €1,700 for four, and €2,000 for five. Prices exclude VAT, which is added where it applies. Every tech pack is checked against a real workshop before it reaches you, so the questions don’t come back during sampling.

Do I own the tech pack?

Yes. At the end of the project, the tech pack and the design are yours. And we sign an NDA on request if you want one before sharing your designs.

Can I use the tech pack with any manufacturer?

Yes. The tech pack is a standard production document, and any workshop can work from it. If you want to produce in Italy, our team can also take it to a verified workshop.

What do I need before ordering a tech pack?

A visual reference for each style: a sketch, a photo of a similar product, or a physical sample. The tech pack turns it into a document a workshop can quote and sample. If you only have a direction or a mood, choose Creative Design & Tech Pack: our designers draw the sketches first.

What do I need to send to start?

Send the visual reference for each style. Then add anything else you have: measurements, fabric or trim samples, or a product you like the fit of. After you order, we send you an onboarding form within 1 business day. Your designer goes through everything with you in the kick-off call.

Can you make a tech pack from a sketch or a photo?

Yes. Every tech pack starts from a sketch, a photo, or a reference product. Your designer turns it into technical drawings and specs, then checks the details with you before the first draft.

What are the most common tech pack mistakes?

  • No interior views: the workshop decides the pockets, the lining, and the finishing for you.
  • Undocumented changes between prototype and sample: nobody can trace what was approved.
  • Vague materials: “soft leather” isn’t a spec. Use the article name, weight, and supplier reference.

If you’re preparing your own files first, this guide on what to send to a clothing manufacturer shows what a workshop needs.
